Ok so i was just reading a couple of papers on adversial evasion. im so inspired to learn so much cool math and cs again man. like seriously ok, im a math kid first off. im obv gonna do a lot of programming build a lot of cool projects, but at the core, like the main skill has got to be this deep technical expertise and problem solving man. like that part has got to come true. you have to be the best in the world at this man. yeah lets work. learn a bunch of cool stuff and make a bunch of cool stuff and achieve all our dreams letsgo/// allthewayup.

ok so basically, to compare if two images are the same, first off you always find an embedding of faces. and then you compute some notion of distance between two faces, usually its a L_p norm, or maybe sometimes cosine similarity. and if this distance is below some threshold we say theyre the same person. so ofc if there's a face X which has a small distance to both A and B then it could pass as either. this is called a multi identity sample...

you know what, lets do a doable goal right now. for my project, i need a list of all iit d students along with their entry numbers and hostels.
at iit delhi, entry number is a unique id which contains a bunch of information; like mine is 2024BB10359 ; 2024 is just well entry year. BB1 is my course code. 0359 is like ID number. there's also a kerberos id which is similar but like bb1240359 ; basically contains the same info but in a slightly different format.

Ok so there's this thing in iitd called ldap which has like a bunch of data about like coureses, like registration and stuff etc. etc. so with the help of archit, we had scraped the data. what we basically did is got the mtl100 course registration list for 2022 and 2023. from ldap. for 2024 and 2025, i asked around for the list from my friends. for each of the years, the hostel allotment list was publicly available. so i mean that was cool.

so so yeah we had scraped data and i need it for 2022,23,24,25 entry students.
for 2022, i have the mtl100 list, which is a course every first year (well except design students, we'll deal with that later) has to take. i also have their hostel allotment list... its in this format:
so i mean this should be easy enough. this is prolly going to be the easiest year, there's no design students either. so this is prolly trivial as fuck.
for 2024 i have almost the exact. same thing, hostel allotment list+mtl100 list. this is almost exactly like 2022 except that 2024 also had design students, but archit from another list had scraped name+entry number for all students (but this did not contain kids who got depc, which is why im not using this list) so i can get the design students from there.
for 2025, i have their hostel allotment list, and then a mtl100 course list on excel tho. i mean design thing is similar to 2024. yeah this should be doable.
i tested all of these and it seems like these are all the students here, so i mean yeah this is perfect.
2023 is kind of weird, i mean i do have the hostel allotment list, but their mtl100 thing was weirdly split up, which is annoying. and like a bunch of people in the mtl list werent there in the hostel list. well i mean ill think about this later. lets do these things first. i also had set up my college vpn, so ill worry about 2023 once im done with 2022,4 and 5. uh yeah lets get to work then. this is going to be such a cool project man letsgo.

ok, so i am starting with 2024. this is the thing im trying to do:
Im trying to make a list of all students at my college, as in their name, entry number (which is just an id number), hostel for a project im building. So i think we should store these values in a csv file? because well i guess thatll be the easiest to work with when i make these profiles for my project. so like each entry is {entry number, name, hostel} Ok lets go year by year, first up for 2024... (there's approx 1300 kids) I have all the data in the form of 2 pdfs, one is the courselist pdf, in which each entry is as shown in the first screenshot. I only care about student name and entry number , and even in entry. number, we only care about students whose entry number starts with 2024. so from here we can scrape all the name, entry number pairs. the hostel data is in the second pdf , which has the entry number and respective hostels. I wanna combine and save all this data. For example, from the first pdf, id be able to name and entry number, from the second id get the hostel respective to the entry number and we could combine them to get one entry like: Aditya Bhandari, 2024BB10359, Aravali So again, maybe we'll first need to turn the pdf into something more manageable? like text extraction or something and then maybe write code to do this after

so with 2022, theres a little difference . i have attached the hostel (entry number, hostel thing here) , this is a very similar pdf to the 2024 hostel one. but for the name, entry number list, the differnce is, 1) its a html file (i have attached) (look at screenshot to see how entries look here) 2) here instead of entry number they have another id (kerberos), but this id has a very simple mapping to entry number. each kerberos id is of form: xyd22abcd where xyd is the branch code, of the form am1 or bb1 or cs5 etc. etc. abcd is the 4 digit id, and 22 is ofc the year. (we only wanna select 2022 kids from here btw) so the way to turn this into entry number is: xyd22abcd -> 2022XYdabcd (where X,Y is caps x,y) for example; am1221215 should become 2022AM11215 and so on.
yeah lets try to do this now.

ok fixed a couple things. in the 2024 list the code had already written up the design kiddos entry number,hostel but i hadnt noticed so i deleted that.
for 2022, the hostel list does not allot hostels to the DD kids , so i guess theyre js gonna have entry number, name. no biggie. bro this social network music is literally perfect for this.

there was this problem in 2025 that the dual students had their hostels as : ,(DUAL) Aravali and shit, so i just did find+replace on ",(DUAL) " -> ","

finally moving onto the peculiar case of 2023.

here for the hostel the pdf is similar as ive attached. for the name, entry number tho, i already have a txt file which looks like the screenshot above, or the exact text looks like: "am1230008 | Aman Singh am1230017 | Kunjal am1230025 | Urvi am1230051 | Pratham Chugh am1230062 | Lakshman Nayak Devasath am1230145 | Atulya Rai" So again i want you to do the same kerberos to entry number logic (xyd23abcd -> 2023XYdabcd) but this time, the only change is i want you to merge the datas using just the last 4 digits logic. basically, in 2023, some of the xy have changed, like in hostel list, some person might have entry number 2023BB10359 but in txt file they may have entry number 2023CS50359. so only the xy might have changed for some entries but even in those cases, the last 4 digits have remained unchnged, so to handle these cases, i want to add the hostel to the name, entry number list using only the last 4 digits. rest the whole logic is same.
This whole shenanigan is cos of depc kids from 2023. cos apparently the 2023 txt (that archit generated, thanks archit!!!) has the new entry numbers, ie. after depc while the hostel ofc has the old entry numbers. wtv lets try to do this.

names, entry numbers and hostel for every single student at iit delhi. all 4958 of them.
